ASTON MARTIN DBX (2020): START OF SUV PRODUCTION IN WALES – Autojournal.fr

An important moment for Aston Martin. The British manufacturer has just produced the very first production model of its first SUV! The DBX number 1 left Thursday, July 9, 2020 from the assembly lines of the new factory in St Athan, Wales (photo).

"We are very proud of our first SUV, which is as much an Aston Martin as our other sports cars," said Marek Reichman, vice president and creative director of Aston Martin. "Thanks to my design team, the engineers, the aerodynamics team and all the specialists who made this beautiful car by hand, here in St Athan, the DBX has become the car that will bring Aston Martin in a daring new era. "

The DBX must indeed allow the brand to return to profitability after particularly difficult years. For this, the Gaydon firm aims to sell between 4,000 and 5,000 DBX each year, which would make the SUV the best-selling model of Aston Martin. The commercial beginnings are also rather encouraging since all the production planned for the year 2020 has already been reserved.

When it is launched, the model is offered with an original Mercedes-AMG biturbo 4L V8 which develops 550 hp and 700 Nm of torque (all-wheel drive and automatic transmission). In France, the starting price is set at € 195,126.05 very precisely, excluding the ecological penalty of € 20,000.

Variants V12 and hybrid could also join the range quickly enough to boost sales a little more. A "cut" DBX and an extended version would also be in the cards.

The first deliveries of the Aston Martin DBX are due to start during the month of July.
