The Audi RS 5 DTM clearly dominated
qualifying for the Saturday race, taking all six
best lap times of this qualifying session.
It was Loïc Duval who took pole position aboard the # 28 Audi Phoenix Racing in 1.23.341. Robin Frijns (Audi Abt Sportsline # 4), who is racing at home this weekend in Assen and in front of the public, authorized for the first time since the start of the 2020 DTM season, had first gained the ascendancy in 1.23.375 before the Frenchman dislodges him from the preferential position, the Dutchman having to settle for second fastest time.
Four other Audi come next, with in order: Nico Müller (Abt Sportsline # 51), Ferdinand von Habsburg (WRT # 62), Mike Rockenfeller (Phoenix # 99) and René Rast (Rosberg # 33, sixth in 1.23.668 , the differences being therefore very small.
Lucas Auer (BMW M4 DTM RMR # 22) was the fastest of the BMW riders with the seventh fastest time in 1.23.853.
