According to a report from Nikkei Asia, the iPhone SE will return in 2022 in a fairly classic design. However, Apple would have revised its copy under the chassis to bring it much more power and compatibility with 5G in particular.
Apple has no plans to abandon its “entry-level” iPhone model. But the Cupertino company has simply chosen to modulate its renewal rate less quickly than for its classic iPhones. So the iPhone SE knows how to wait.
We take the same one and we start over
After a first model in 2016, then a reappearance in spring 2020, the third variation would not be expected before the first half of 2022, according to the Nikkei Asia report relayed by MacRumors. And we are no longer talking about a large screen model, but rather a design that would remain the same.
According to the report, the iPhone SE 2022 would once again take the features of the iPhone 8 with its 4.7-inch screen and LCD screen. The idea of a larger screen, even Oled, with a notch to replace tactile recognition with facial recognition no longer seems fashionable.
Inside, the smartphone should take the recipe of its predecessors. We would then find Apple’s most powerful chip, namely the future A15 which must be made official with the iPhone 12s / 13 next September.
Tuesday, DigiTimes had claimed that the iPhone SE 2022 will rely on the current A14 chip instead, but it would be surprising if the device didn’t make an appearance until next year. Apple’s promise has always been to have the most power in a more dated chassis.
And to accompany the global breakthrough of 5G, Apple has decided to equip its most affordable device with ultra-fast connection thanks to Qualcomm’s X60 modem chip. On the other hand, nothing suggests that its price could be revised upwards drastically. Apple wants to keep a device for less than 500 euros / dollars.
The latest small iPhone model
In the Nikkei Asia report, we also learn that the iPhone SE would thus become the smallest device model in the Apple range (the iPhone 12 mini is smaller in size), because Tim Cook and his family would give up a iPhone 14 mini, on the other hand, to offer two models with a 6.7-inch screen (Pro and non-Pro), in addition to the two 6.1-inch iPhones.
In the meantime, the iPhone 12s / 13 should go into production in August for a usual presentation in September. Apple is said to have ordered up to 95 million units by the end of January, a notable increase of nearly 20% over the 2020 models.
