Amazon has just announced that it has ordered 1,800 electric utility vehicles from Mercedes-Benz, in order to orient its European fleet towards the goal of carbon neutrality by 2040.
Amazon wants to electrify its fleet of delivery vehicles in Europe and ordered 1,800 SUVs from Mercedes-Benz, 1,200 eSprinter and 600 eVito. This is the most important order recorded by Mercedes-Benz for electric vehicles and the group specifies that 800 VU will be deployed in Germany and 500 in the United Kingdom. A large part of the deliveries is scheduled before the end of the year.
"This is an important step on our path to building the most sustainable delivery fleet in the world", says Jeff Bezos, president of Amazon. We can recall thatAmazon had already announced a dizzying order for 100,000 electric vans from Rivian Automotive LLC, a new manufacturer whose capital it has integrated. An approach that is part of the group plan to achieve carbon neutrality for its activity in 2040, a decade ahead of the Paris Agreement target. In 2018, Amazon ordered 20,000 thermal Sprinter from Mercedes-Benz, but the group is now prioritizing sustainable technologies.
