On the occasion of the publication of its financial results for the third quarter of 2019, FCA (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) unveiled a new roadmap for Alfa Romeo. And once again, the Italian firm will not keep its promises.
A little over a year ago, at the presentation of a new strategic plan for the group, Sergio Marchionne announced the arrival of four new vehicles by 2022. Among them, two were to revive famous names: GTV and 8C.
But these two models are no longer on the program! FCA says Alfa Romeo will focus on high volume markets. The brand will therefore ignore important products for its image. As a reminder, the GTV was announced with a hybrid V6 600 hp, the 8C had to have a thermal block at the rear and a power block at the front, with more than 700 hp accumulated.
And that's not all. The large SUV project has also been abandoned and the brand no longer intends to replace the Giulietta! In the compact segment, it will rely on the Tonale SUV, whose standard version will be presented within a year.
There is however a surprise in the other direction with this new calendar: the announcement of the arrival of an SUV on the segment B, in other words a rival of the Renault Captur and Peugeot 2008. This one was not planned in 2018. Alfa indicates that this model will be available with a 100% electric version. A date of commercialization is specified: it will be in 2022.
At that time, the brand will have only four vehicles in its range! Once again, the promises of Alfa Romeo only engaged those who believed! It remains to be seen how this schedule will evolve with the PSA-FCA merger project. Perhaps this one is also already taken into account, the small electric SUV being able to take again the base of the Peugeot e-2008.
