The automobile manufacturer Acura has been trying to reinvent itself for a few years by emphasizing the sportiness of its models and their parentage with the exotic NSX. We saw this in particular with the third generation of RDX, which made a spectacular leap compared to its predecessor. The sedan TLX is about to make a similar change of course for its new generation scheduled for 2021 with, among other things, the arrival of a version Type S for 2021.
It took over 10 years for the Type S designation to resume service. To make our mouths water, Acura has released an image showing the rear portion of the Type S version of the TLX sedan, which will be released online on May 28, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. Although the image is darkened, you can see fairly wide hips, horizontal LED position lights, air outlets on either side of the bumper, a diffuser and, above all, four pots of well rounded exhaust.
As for the design of the rest of the bodywork, it will take until May 28 to get it right. Acura just said that the new TLX will pay homage to the evolving style of the Acura Precision concept while recreating the dramatic proportions and design language of the Acura Type S concept. ”In all likelihood, the design of the new TLX generation will therefore take up the main elements that were shown on this concept, last August. This is, moreover, the usual Honda modus operandi in this area.
New turbo engine
The manufacturer's press release also mentions a new 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 engine, a machine that will be found for the first time under the hood of this Type S. Although few details are known at the moment, it is a safe bet that this mechanism will offer a power of more than 300, even 330 horses, and that it will be found under the hood of other models of the brand, such as the new generation MDX which will arrive from here some times.
The return of the Type S range had been predicted on several occasions, among others by the Acura Type S concept, which set the stage for the sportier alignment that Acura was going to take. It remains possible that this branch of performance will extend to other models of the brand in the coming years. However, the new generation TLX will be the first to revive it.
Stay tuned to RPMweb.ca for the official launch of the new Acura TLX 2021, which will take place on May 28 at 1 p.m. We will have all the details for this new sedan for you.
