In a few weeks, the range of Toyota Yaris will be enriched with a boosted GR version, already visible on the net through official images, although still hidden under a thick camouflage. Under its hood, the compact then takes on a three-cylinder 1.6 liter turbocharged, promising a trifle of 250 horsepower, for a torque of 350 Nm. However, and if it already seduced us when testing its prototype a few days ago, the Japanese firm would already be working on a an even more radical version, as our Australian colleagues from Motoring claim. It would then be the declination GRMN, which would then succeed the current generation, and whose technical data sheet is already very attractive.
And for good reason, and even if it is for the moment only rumors, the compact could operate a beautiful rise in power, then claiming some 300 horsepower, from the same block as the GR. If the figures are obviously not yet known, and if nothing has been confirmed, the torque should be around 400 Nm, while the 0 to 100 km / h would be shot in less than 5 seconds, for a maximum speed of 270 km / h. As a reminder, the GR version performs the same exercise in just 5.5 seconds, while the top speed is established at more than 220 km / h, which therefore remains very honorable, while the compact displays 1, 3 tonnes on the scale.
In addition to its purely mechanical improvements, this Toyota Yaris GRMN will also benefit from some evolutions in order to lower its weight. For this, the brand's engineers should offer it a few specific elements, including a carbon fiber roof, doors, an aluminum hood and tailgate, as well as forged rims and a composite rear window. In addition, it will also be possible to remove the air conditioning and rear seats, which should save a hundred pounds. Finally, the chassis could also undergo some modifications, the assembly then being stiffened in order to ensure road holding and optimal stability in sporty driving. A spokesperson for the brand has even said that a record on the Nürburgring will be considered.
Anyway, it will still be necessary to be patient before seeing this Toyota Yaris GRMN on the roads, which has not even been officially confirmed by the manufacturer. In the meantime, we will have to be satisfied with the GR version, which will arrive in concessions at the end of next year, for a price that should turn around € 35,000.
