The M Endurance offered as an option for the S 1000 RR and S 1000 XR
Other motorcycles concerned soon
For more than 90 years, BMW Motorrad has relied on its driveshafts for its large displacement to deliver a maintenance-free drivetrain for added convenience. The Bavarian manufacturer is now attacking the chains by offering a maintenance-free version.
With the M Endurance chain, the drudgery of chain lubrication is a thing of the past. As on the low friction X-Ring models, the M Endurance also has a permanent lubricant located between the rollers and the axles, but this one is distinguished by a new coating of the axles: the amorphous tetrahedral carbon (ta-C ), also referred to as an "industrial diamond". This coating is characterized by a robustness and an increased resistance and displays performances located between the coating DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) and the pure diamond.
Unlike the metals used up to now, the ta-C coating does not wear out and also offers a significantly reduced coefficient of friction. BMW promises that thanks to this excellent dry lubrication and the elimination of wear, the M Endurance offers a maintenance comfort similar to that of a shaft.
For now, the M Endurance chain is available in 525 for the two four-cylinder motorcycles S 1000 RR and S 1000 XR as an accessory or as an option. Other models will soon be affected, however, the manufacturer has not yet specified the prices of its indestructible chain.
