Since the launch of the FIA World Endurance Championship, the Japanese manufacturer has been the only one to respond. Toyota will remain as the loyal partner of the LMP1 hybrid category and is now entering a new era with its new GR010 HYBRID presented 10 days ago, the Hypercar!
But before moving on to LMH, let’s take a step back. It is October 2011 and Toyota announces its return to Endurance racing. The new prototype is developed by the Toyota Motorsport GmbH entity based in Cologne, Germany and powered by a gasoline hybrid engine. A few weeks later, ORECA announced that the French structure had been selected to become a Toyota partner in its project.
On January 24, 2012 (just nine years to the day), Toyota lifted the veil on its TS030 HYBRID (TS for Toyota Sport and 030 to follow on from the 020) at the Paul Ricard circuit.
