Acura, via AJ Allmendinger, responded to Cadillac’s fastest time in the first session. At the wheel of the # 60 Meyer Shank Racing ARX-05, the American was the fastest in the second session of the Daytona 24 Hours. This is the first time this week that Acura has peaked at the top of the timesheets.
Has his fastest lap in 1: 34.287, it is ahead of Scott Dixon’s Cadillac DPi-VR # 01 (Chip Ganassi Racing) by 0.376 seconds. Mike Rockenfeller, who dominated the majority of the session in Action Express Racing’s # 48 Cadillac DPi, finished third, while Sébastien Bourdais (Cadillac # 5 JDC-Miller Motorsports) and Jonathan Bomarito (Mazda # 55) completed the top 5.
The # 52 Oreca 07 from PR1 / Mathiasen Motorsports once again made the powder talk in LMP2, but this time in the hands of Mikkel Jensen (ahead of ORECA 07 of Tower Motorsport and High Class Racing) while LMP3 is still dominated by the # 91 Ligier JS P320 from Riley Motorsports. The second car from Riley Motorsport is 2nd, the # 38 from Performance Tech Motorsports, 3rd!
With a turn in 1: 42.600, Gianmaria Bruni placed the WeatherTech Racing team at the top of the GTLM standings with the # 79 Porsche 911 RSR-19. It precedes the Ferrari 488 GTE Evo # 62 of Risi Competizione (James Calado), the two Corvette C8.R and the factory BMW M8 GTE.
After battling electrical problems in the first practice session, the # 111 Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo of Grasser Racing Team was the fastest in GTD. The time of Mirko Bortolotti (1: 45.690) was 0.243 seconds faster than that of the # 64 Porsche 911 GT3 R of Team TGM (Owen Trinkler). Katherine Legge (# 88 Team Hardpoint EBM) and Laurens Vanthoor (# 9 Pfaff Motorsports) are then placed, which gives three Porsches in the top 4! Magnus with Archangel’s Acura NSX GT3 # 44 is 5th.
There were no incidents or major stops even though Charlie Eastwood’s # 97 Aston Martin Vantage GT3 was spotted with tire problems on the front right. Only the # 96 BMW M6 GT3 from Turner Motorsport chose not to participate in the session.
