100% electric models coming for the sporting sector of Jaguar Land Rover – Motor1 France

The former Alpine boss and current director of the special operations department (SVO) at Jaguar Land Rover's side, Michael van der Sande, gave himself up to some confidences with our colleagues from AutoExpress concerning the future of the two group brands in sports cars.

Unsurprisingly, the future should be electric for the future Land Rover and Jaguar SVR with the imminent disappearance of the 5.0-liter V8. Jaguar's involvement in electric competitions is anything but a coincidence, as evidenced by the Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy, a competition contested on the sidelines of the Formula E Grand Prix from 2018 to 2020. A competition that has barely come from elsewhere. to stop for economic reasons linked to the current health crisis.

However, that should not slow down Jaguar Land Rover's progress in the area of electrification. If a Jaguar I-Pace SVR is not scheduled, other electrified sports models are in the cards.

"We are going to develop electrified versions of our cars, whether they are 100% electric models or plug-in hybrids"announced Michael van der Sande."The I-Pace is not on this path, but there are other things we are working on that we cannot talk about, but we are very interested in electrification. That is why we got involved in eTrophy. "

Jaguar doesn't give official reasons for the lack of a sporty version for the I-Pace, but the simple fact that the car rests on its own specific platform, which will not be used on other models of the group, leaves to think that development costs would be too high to design a real sports model.

For that, we will have to wait for the future 100% electric Jaguar XJ, which should be unveiled this year, and which will use the group's new MLA platform. A platform which will then be extended to the entire Jaguar Land Rover range within the next few years. The SVO department will therefore work mainly around this platform to develop its sports models.

Michael van der Sande also talks about the good results of the SVO department with record sales last year and 64% increase in deliveries compared to 2018. Good figures which are explained by the arrival on the market of two interesting novelties, namely the Jaguar F-Pace SVR and the Range Rover Velar SVAutobiography Dynamic Edition.
